Genre: different kinds of writing. They have different styles that in effect produce different genres.

Genre is the different styles of writing you can use to write a more effective paper. Some genres of writing can be used for different assignments. Some of these assignments include  lab reports, memos, descriptions, and proposals. 

Different genres of writing typically have different formats. For example, in a lab report we have abstract, introduction, materials, methods, results, discussion, conclusion, and references. Which is different from other assignments. The purpose can also help with the genre. Having a purpose can shape and formulate your writing. The purpose can make you be in between the borders of the style of writing you are going.
